WE ARE MODERN MACCABEES

The Maccabees left us a legacy of fighting for religious freedom and preserving Jewish culture, a mission that we now take into the 21st century. We are committed to keeping the beautiful holiday of Hanukkah visible and relevant to the modern world by reimagining the music and film. We aren’t just commemorating the rededication of the Temple. We’re remembering the importance of simple miracles and standing up for what’s right.

Our aim is to share the true meaning of Hanukkah, not just with Jews, but with everyone. So join us on our journey through eight fabulous nights of music, love, courage, and above all — freedom!

HANUKKAH

More than 2100 years ago, the Maccabees fought to bring freedom to the Jewish people to practice their religion in peace. In the midst of that war, Judah and his army regained control of Jerusalem.

Rather than just occupying the city, they worked to cleanse and rebuild parts of the Temple that were destroyed or defiled. When they were done, they lit the Temple’s menorah with a little bit of consecrated oil and rededicated the space to G-d. Judah himself insisted that the rededication be commemorated every year on 25 Kislev. The miracle, so familiar to us all these centuries later, kept the menorah burning for eight nights all together, even though there wasn’t enough oil for more than one. We continue to celebrate Hanukkah (the rededication of the Temple) just as Judah decreed.

And it’s a truly special holiday. Without the victories of the Maccabees, Judaism and Jewish culture would have been wiped out, lost forever. Fighting for religious freeddom is still worth for and celebrating by all! We’re all born under the same light, we all want to breathe free, and we all can find joy in forging our own futures, making our dreams come true. it brings people together.

HOW WE GOT HERE

September 2017 a small group of men and women sought out to fill a big void by bringing Chanukah music to life.
The original goal was to release new music videos for each night of Hanukkah. For the last two years, we have had several stops and starts but fell short.  We successfully created thirteen songs thanks to our amazing writers, Arthur Pingrey and Megan Liotta, talented performers Arthur’s amazing talent as producer. So far we are proud to post 4 original music videos…more to come next year.

STAND STRONG FOR EQUALITY

In 1945, Frank Sinatra made a short film called “The House I Live In,” that was intended to combat rising antisemitism in the United States during World War II. The film, directed by Mervyn LeRoy, received an honorary Oscar and a Golden Globe, and in 2007 was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. This short clip from the film shows how relevant Frank’s words are to today’s sociopolitical climate.
